Eff The Guns, Battle with Paint!

On May 13, 2015, The Rex Theater in downtown Pittsburgh will host the area’s first Art Attack, a live competitive painting event that puts twelve artists through three rounds of timed painting in order to crown the evening’s master of the creative universe.

The winner will also get a golden ticket to the championship at the end of the year. All art created during the event will be auctioned off during the evening, with proceeds going to the, ahem…Artists!

Ed Lightcap, founder of Art Attack Pittsburgh, explained about why events like his are important for the city.

“Pittsburgh is an emerging art scene that has been getting a lot of recognition as of late.  Gallery crawls on Penn Avenue, in the Cultural District and in Shadyside as well as the Arts Festival at the point, Art All Night in Lawrenceville and the bi-monthly Raw Pittsburgh events expose the public to all the art this city has to offer.

What I wanted to do is build off of everything that is currently going on in the Pittsburgh art scene.  There are two main reasons I created this event.
First, to give the artists a fun and free platform to showcase and promote their talents.   Second, I want to offer the public an opportunity to be a part of the artistic process. Usually at an art event the public only gets to see the finished piece of work.
Rarely do they get to see all the hard work and dedication that the artist puts into each piece that they create.  This event lets them see the entire process,” said Lightcap.

Live music with accompanying DJ will also be a part of the evening’s festivities.

“We have confirmed that local Pittsburgh comedian, Davon Magwood will be the emcee of Art Attack Pittsburgh.  We will also have a DJ keeping the music flowing throughout the night and two live music acts,” Lightcap stated.
